Teaching a Dog to Sit Pretty (or Beg)

Sitting pretty makes even the roughest mutt look super cute. Make sure your dog is already familiar and trained to use the "Sit" command.

How to teach your dog to Sit Pretty

From the sitting position. Say "Pretty" or "Beg" (but always use the same command) as you raise your hand up over the dogs head. Most dogs will automatically sit pretty -- raising their front paws off the ground and balancing themselves on their rear-end. Give praise.

Rinse and repeat.

For the stubborn dog deterimined not to "be pretty": Keep a treat in your hand that your raise above your dogs head as you give the command. If your dog comes out of the sitting position to get the treat you can hold their hindquarters down with your other hand.
