Orange to Lemon to Card Trick
Difficulty Level - Advanced.
How the trick appears:
A volunteer is instructed to choose a card. Later the magician has the volunteer peel an orange, but they find a lemon inside. When they peel the lemon, they find their chosen card rolled up inside it.
How it works:
Preparation: First you need two decks of cards that are the same, and
orange and a lemon.
1. Cut the top off a lemon very carefully. Insert a pencil or similar into the middle of the lemon creating enough room for the rolled up twin of the forced card you will be using in your trick. Dry the edges of the lemon with a cloth, and glue the top back onto the top of the lemon as accurately as possible. Allow the glue to dry. You can wax the lemon to fill in any cracks.
2. Take an orange big enough to hold the lemon and cut four slits into
the bottom of it about half-way up. Use a knife or spoon to separate
the inner fruit from the orange peel, without tearing the peel. When
you have the meat out, you should still be able to keep the basic
shape of the orange with the just the peel. Place the lemon inside
the orange, dry with a cloth and glue the bottom slits of the orange
together. You can wax the lemon to fill in any cracks.
In about two hours, the slits won't be as noticeable, but you the slits will start turning black, so don't wait too long between preparation and performance. A little bit of neosporin (the anti-septic gunk you put on cuts) rubbed into the slits will give you a bit more time before the slits turn black.
The Performance:
1. Force your chosen card onto your volunteer from the audience. (Read here if you don't know how to do a force). Have the volunteer memorize the card and place it back into the deck. Take deck into your pocket, put it back in it's box and place it into your pocket. The extra deck should be in the same pocket (with the twin of the chosen card removed).
2. Point to a table where the orange is sitting. Instruct the volunteer to peel the orange. After they peel the orange, the lemon, and then find their card. Have them confirm that it was their chosen card.
3. Pull out the extra deck from your pocket and let the volunteer
look for their card. It won't be there :)
